Design Bloggers Conference Announces Hall of Fame Awards
The inaugural induction into the Design Bloggers Hall of Fame took place on February 27, 2012 at the Design Bloggers Conference in Los Angeles.
During an initial nomination period, the top five blogs in each category were determined through a combination of public nominations and a panel of expert judges. The public then voted on their favorite among the five finalists; the winners were determined based on a combination of the ratings of the expert panel of judges and the public vote.
The awards were presented in a ceremony sponsored by Benjamin Moore and hosted by Jason Oliver Nixon. Here is the list of the inductees into the Hall of Fame:
- Best Overall Design Blog: Tobi Fairley, Tobi’s Blog
- Best Design Blog Graphics, Photography, & Presentation: Cassandra LaValle, coco+kelley
- Best Writing On a Design Blog: Jennifer Boles, Peak of Chic
- Best New Design Blog: Meredith Heron, Sashay
The Rules
Here is a detailed description of how the Design Bloggers Conference Hall of Fame Awards process worked:
- The awards are open to any English-language design blog.
- The nomination period began on November 22, 2011, and continue through the end of the day (Eastern Standard Time) on December 21, 2011. Nominations were open to the public and were made via the Design Bloggers Conference website. A nomination was made by simply adding a comment to the page for the designated category nominating the blog for consideration. Each blog nominated for a category was included in the selection process; additional nominations for a blog in the same category had no effect, so once a blog was nominated for a category there was no reason to nominate it again.
- A panel of expert judges evaluated all the nominated blogs for each category during the period December 22 – January 8, 2011 and selected the top five blogs in each category.
- The public was given the opportunity to vote for the finalists of each category from January 9 – February 10, 2012.
- Each category winner was chosen based on 50% of the input coming from the judges and 50% coming from the public vote.
